Next up in my series of Creative Chats is Sarah of Geo Heaven, an amazing independent maker that I had the pleasure of meeting at Blogtacular earlier this year. I’ve actually followed Geo Heaven on Instagram for a while, but it’s just not the same as meeting someone in person! Sarah makes the most incredible 3D jewellery as well as some amazing pin badges.
At the start of the year, I made a resolution that 2017 was going to be the year I learned how to use a camera properly. I LOVE taking pictures, but am heavily reliant on my iPhone to do so. Photography is incredibly important to me for so many different reasons, but the main one is that it was my Grandad’s favourite hobby. I have many memories of him taking photos at all our family events, and in most of the photos I have of him; he’s there with his camera around his neck.
It’s been a while since I posted a Creative Chat, but I can promise you it was worth the wait! In this post I’m chatting to the lovely Cat from Twin Pines Creative. I first met Cat at Blogtacular last year, when I sat next to her and Jo from Hello Sunshine at a writing workshop. I immediately realised how cool Cat was when she loaded a picture to Instagram from that session and I realised that we had been using the exact same pen (it was a fancy Ban.do one, not just any old Bic ballpoint!). We’ve stayed in touch via social media since then and I can always rely on a bright picture from Cat’s Instagram feed to brighten my morning. Continue reading “Creative Chats: Twin Pines Creative”→
Launching new products has been on my to-do list for sometime now. I dipped my toe into the water last year when I worked with Rachel on Create Craft Kits, and whilst I loved working on a collaboration, I’ve been thinking about launching a solo project in the months since.
Earlier this year I started to think about the events I would be attending over the summer. I wanted to be able to take something physical with me, to share with fellow creatives, and even swap for other goodies! I took the plunge and came up with some ideas for prints based on some doodles I had previously shared on Instagram. Continue reading “New Product Launch: My First Range of Prints”→
It’s been a while since I’ve written a round-up style post, so thought it was about time for another one. As well as using my blog as a place to share my makes and experiences, I do like to use it as an opportunity to show off the work of others.
If 2016 was the year of the pin badge for me, then 2017 has definitely been the year of the houseplant. When we moved into our house at the end of the 2015, we didn’t own a single plant. By the end of 2016, I could probably count our plants on one hand. By August 2017, we have almost 20.
For full disclosure, I’m not a natural gardener. One of the main attractions of our current house was that the garden wasn’t too big, and being a new build, the entire thing would be turfed. Not a single flowerbed to weed! It’s not that I don’t like plants, it’s just that both me and Mr Makes only really get time for our hobbies at the weekend, and we’d much rather spend our time sewing, crafting, baking, cycling, etc. You get the picture. I’ve blogged time and time again about my love for independent makers and designers. Since first discovering Hello Dodo I’ve been in love with their bright colours and quirky prints. Based in Worthing, they make t-shirts, prints, sweatshirts, and much, much more. One of the reasons I love Hello Dodo so much is that Mr Makes adores their stuff, and so I know I can always find something perfect for him (his last Christmas, Birthday, and even Valentines have featured Hello Dodo in some way).
A few months ago, Hello Dodo announced that for one week only they would be taking over Colonnade House in Worthing and hosting a pop-up shop. An excuse to visit the seaside and buy lots of shiny new things? I was instantly sold, and Mr Makes didn’t need much convincing either. So, on a sunny Saturday morning we set about on a road trip to Worthing to visit one of our favourite creative businesses! Continue reading “A Trip to Hello Dodo Land”→
